Mission Projects

The Anglican Parish of Nerja and Almuñecar regularly supports two local projects.

The Sisters of the Good Samaritan in Nerja

The sisters of this religious order have been working hard to raise 2 million euros to build a residential home for 65 elderly people in need.

The home is now open but they will continue to need funds to support their work.

Meanwhile, the sisters are continuing to serve those who are sick and those who live alone.

Some of these simply need someone to sit and talk with them, but others require a complete package of care and the sisters might go to their homes up to three times a day to get them out of bed in the morning, feed and wash them, and help them back to bed at night.

The sisters who form the community in Nerja look after on average 12 sick people each day.

Caritas in Almuñecar and Nerja

Caritas in Spain works on social justice issues, supporting those with health problems and those who are unemployed.

In Almuñecar, Caritas runs two distribution centres for poor families where food and other necessary items for babies and children are given to those in need.

In Nerja, there is a distribution centre in the Church of El Salvador on the Balcon de Europa.  Members of our congregations make regular donations towards food and household items which support these centres.

We also support a number of other charities including:

Water Aid

Water Aid's mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

Christian Aid

In 2009 we participated in Christian Aid’s
“Count your Blessings”
in which we responded every day through Lent
to help in the fight against global poverty.

Our gifts of over 500€ went to help vulnerable children in South Africa, including those affected by HIV, such as Nomfundo (left), left to care for her brothers and sisters when their parents died of HIV-related illnesses.

In the last two years, we have taken part in Quizaid and raised £100 in 2010 and £150 in 2011 during our Harvest Lunch for Christian Aid.

The Diocese of Peru

During Lent 2010 and 2011 we had a special appeal
for the Anglican Diocese of Peru
with which our Archdeaconry is linked
and for the work of Bishop Bill Godfrey there.

We raised €600 each year.
